Dear FGSD Staff and Families,
With the 2019-2020 school year coming to a close, the Forest Grove School District is looking for feedback from students, families, and staff on their experiences with “Distance Learning” during the COVID-19 pandemic. We will use this critical feedback as we plan for the next school year and work to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all families and staff members in our district. While we do not yet know how the fall will look, we are determined to learn from the experiences of the past three months. We want to create ways of better delivering instruction to our students. The surveys we will send to students, families, and staff will help us to make important changes and to deliver on that desire.
Over the past two years, the district has partnered with researchers from the University of Michigan and Stanford University to better understand and implement culturally responsive practices in our schools. These researchers have graciously volunteered to assist us in collecting feedback on how the COVID-19 pandemic and the implementation of “Distance Learning for All” has affected students’ learning and teachers’ instruction. The survey we will share next week will have some questions that may seem personal. These questions will allow the researchers to draw deeper conclusions about how COVID-19 is impacting students, teachers and families. It will also allow them to look at how this pandemic is disproportionately impacting different groups of individuals. Individual answers will not be shared with the district.
This survey is totally voluntary, but we really want to get everyone’s feedback, and I can't stress more strenuously how important it is to share your voice and your experiences with “Distance Learning for All.”
I will send out another email next week with the links to the surveys, and we will communicate on multiple platforms to get the widest possible exposure for this critical piece of feedback. Because we feel that this survey will help the district serve our students better, the University of Michigan will donate some incentives to increase the response rate. A drawing will be held at a later date to award the incentives.
