Dear FGSD Families,
Today Governor Brown released a statement that she will be issuing an executive order to return all students to the classroom “on or before March 29th” for K-5 students. The district has worked closely with our staff members to establish a phased reopening for our students. Our current plans for returning secondary students to in-person instruction coincides with the governor’s statement. However, our plan for retiring elementary students to classrooms, does not comply with her executive order. We expect to receive additional information from the Oregon Department of Education next week that will allow us to continue our phased plan of returning PK-5 students as we have shared with you over the past several days. We will communicate any further information from ODE as soon as we receive it.
Previously, Karen O’Neill informed the district that she would be retiring after this school year but “working back” under the recently passed state law. As part of this opportunity, the school board established a policy requiring those positions vacated under this law to undergo a full hiring process to ensure the best candidate would be hired for the vacated position.
We are pleased to announce that Karen O’Neill has been selected to continue as the principal at Forest Grove High School.
"I am thrilled to continue serving the Forest Grove, Cornelius and Dilley communities as principal of FGHS. We have such an amazing high school because of the staff, students and families in this community,” Ms. O’Neill said. “We also share a collective commitment to continuous improvement. After living in the community for 24 years and spending 17 of those at the high school, I truly feel honored to continue to be part of the FGHS journey. As we start bringing students back into the building and look at the next several years, I know that by working together, we will accomplish amazing things for all of our students."
Lastly, I would like to share information that I have shared here before. This school year has been extremely challenging. Many of us have had to deal with situations that have taxed us beyond comprehension. We live in a wonderful community full of individuals who care for one another. Please continue to look out for those around you. "We Care Deeply" is more than just a district maxim. We care about all of our students, staff and community members and believe that behavioral health and wellness is a priority. We have district resources available to help those who may be struggling. You can find helpful community resources on our website. We also have wonderful staff members who can help connect you with these resources and more. If you know of individuals who are struggling, please reach out to them or reach out to us on their behalf. The important thing is that someone is reaching out.

Classified Appreciation Week
Today ends Classified employee week. Without the dedication of our classified employees, our schools could not function properly and we would not be able to successfully educate children.
This support is critical to student success and I encourage the entire community to join me in celebrating these amazing staff members and their commitment to providing the best educational experience for our students. Classified employees deserve our gratitude and appreciation not only this week, but all year long for their important contributions to our community.

Kinder Roundup
Kinder Roundup will take place during the last week of April. Similar to last year, the event will be done virtually. Registration options will be offered online or in paper format. More information will be sent out in the coming weeks.

We are still working through some bugs with the Stadium Pixellot Camera but we hope to be up and running next week. Currently spectators are not allowed at our venues so we are very thankful to have partnered with NFHS Network.

Expanded Meal Services
Forest Grove School District has a 7-Day Meal Kit program for families that are unable to attend the daily meal pickup. Families will need to fill out an online survey in advance each week and will be able to pick up their meal box at any of the four walk-up sites (Forest Grove High School, Joseph Gale Elementary School, Harvey Clarke Elementary School and Echo Shaw Elementary School). Pick up times and locations can be found on the district website.
Current Meal Distribution
The district is continuing to offer meals to all children 1-18 years old -- free of charge. You can find a schedule of curbside grab and go meals and bus delivery schedules with locations throughout the district by visiting the district website. The message center (1-833-907-3520) is for people who are unable to access the internet or who need support in another language to make an appointment. Call the toll-free number and leave a message to get help scheduling your appointment. You will get a call back within 3 days or sooner if there are appointments available. Available languages: English, Spanish, Russian, Korean, Khmer, Persian, Somalian, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin and Arabic.
