As we near the end of the first semester, we want to encourage your students to strive for good attendance and finish the semester on a positive note. We realize there are a number of reasons your student may be absent. Please continue to help them understand the importance of coming to school every day. Every day out of school is a missed opportunity for learning, being with friends, and building a healthy routine. Let’s finish strong!

FGSD Bond

The school board recently approved the hiring of architects for the replacement of Cornelius Elementary School and other bond projects. Next Monday, January 23, 2023 they will approve a process to create a Bond Oversight Committee which will include community members.

Applications will be available on the district website once the board has approved the process and application.

Cornelius Elementary School Open House

Come help us envision the new Cornelius Elementary! Learn how to lend your voice in the design process, see the overall timeline for the project, and share your hopes and dreams for the new school. There will be food and child care provided.

If you aren’t able to attend the Open House but would like to be considered for joining the Design Advisory Group, please complete this survey before February 3rd.

Forest Grove Vikettes Dance Team

The Forest Grove Vikettes Dance Team competed at the Winter Festival of Dance hosted by Sprague High School. The Team had a clean sweep, placing first and significantly raising their scores in both their Pom and Kick routines. Vikette team members Grace Davis, Naomi Dixon, Eva Torres Bustamente, Kayla Myrick, and Abby Brown also placed in the top ten for Novice Drill Down qualifying them to compete for the team in Drill Down at Category Championships being held at Gresham High School this Saturday, January 21st. Congratulations Dancers!

NAMS Cheerleading

Congratulations to the NAMS cheerleaders as well, in their first competition these students received First Place in Junior Rec. Medium GameDay Division. Well Done!

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Washington County

Do you want to learn more about youth mental health, and how to support the children in your life? The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Washington County is offering a free class starting on January 25th. NAMI Basics is a 6-session education program for parents, caregivers and other family members who provide care for youth (ages 22 and younger) who are experiencing mental health symptoms. It's taught by a trained team with lived experience raising a child with a mental health condition. They know what you’re going through because they've been there too.

Child Tax Credit Information

Families have until mid-November to claim the credit on their own through the simplified filing portal, GetCTC.org/orschools. After that, families can still claim the 2021 CTC, but must file full tax returns. They have until April 15, 2025, to do so.

La junta escolar aprobó recientemente la contratación de arquitectos para el reemplazo de la Escuela Primaria Cornelius y otros proyectos de bonos. El próximo lunes 23 de enero de 2023 aprobarán un proceso para crear un Comité de Supervisión de Bonos que incluirá miembros de la comunidad.
