Joseph Gale Counseling Program

As a part of the comprehensive counseling program at Joseph Gale, we provide classroom counseling lessons for all students once a week, as well as small group counseling, short term individual support and conflict mediation for students. We also provide consultation for students' needs with staff and parents and referrals to services and resources in the community.

Classroom counseling topics include self-awareness (this includes feelings identification and communication) skills for learning, friendship skills, bullying prevention, diversity awareness, conflict resolution, personal safety, emotional regulation and career exploration. We include stress management and mindfulness skills for all grade levels.

If you have questions about curriculum or would like to know more, please see the information under the Classroom Counseling Curriculum tab to the right. Here you will find parent resources and activities to follow up on the learning that your child is doing during classroom counseling lessons.

Your child may come home with an invitation to a group. These are small groups of 5 to 6 students who meet once a week for 30 minutes to practice social skills through play and interaction. The length of these groups may vary, but will last at least 10 weeks. We would like to have as many students involved in these groups as possible throughout the year. If you would like your child to participate, please let us know.

Depending on time available and need, we may also have small groups to support children around divorce, loss and grief, and anxiety/stress management. Please let us know if you are interested in having your child participate in one of these groups.

If you have any questions regarding the counseling program, please feel free to contact Hannah or Nora.

We look forward to working together to meet your child’s needs. Thanks for being an invaluable part of our Joseph Gale Team! Go Jaguars!
